4 Tips to Keep Your Resolutions

Tip #1: Write It Down

Writing down your resolutions is a surefire way to give you a better chance at following through on them It’s statistically proven that people who spell out their resolutions are ten times more likely to accomplish them so we repeat: write them down. It’s harder to hit the snooze button if you’re facing a motivating (read: angry) note on your alarm clock.

Tip #2: Have Accountability

No matter your strength or mental fortitude, we can all ultimately talk ourselves in or out of almost anything. Suddenly that dream of a six pack starts to feel ridiculous. Or you realize you were crazy to think you could get up any time before 7AM. One tip to ensuring you meet your goals is to have someone hold you accountable. Tell your friends or a sibling about your resolution. Then ask them to check in with you to ensure you’ve got progress to report. Better yet, find a friend who has a similar goal… and hold each other accountable!

Tip #3: Practice Positive Affirmations

Get in the habit of giving yourself affirmations. Remind yourself that you can do whatever you’re setting out to accomplish. Get in the habit of affirming your strength, discipline, whatever you’re looking for. Practicing affirmations will make you indestructible. It’s just a matter of time and execution. Wake up each day, head to a mirror and tell yourself (with intensity) that you can do it. Then get to it.   (Rewrite… this sounds redundant and even a bit silly)

Tip #4: Reward Yourself

You know that old idea of dangling a carrot out in front of a horse? Turns out, it works. What might motivate you? Maybe it’s a new set of headphones for your morning run. Or a new water bottle to take with you to yoga. Now set a goal you need to accomplish in order to receive that reward. And then bask in your success.

Go ahead and pat yourself of the back. You’ve earned it!
