5 Tips for Healthy, Glowing Skin

Clear, glowing skin ranks high on everyone’s list of beauty must-have list. The key to getting skin that looks healthy, is ensuring that it actually is healthy. Give it a little TLC and it’ll thank you for it! Here are our five surefire (and pretty simple if we do say so ourselves) tips to healthier, glowing skin.

Upgrade your Beauty Routine

If you’re looking to improve the overall look and feel of your skin, ensure you are using the right products. Everyone (and we mean everyone fellas) should be using a face cream that contains retinol. Retinol has years of scientific research to support the fact that it promotes skin cell turnover and increases collagen which keeps skin firm and healthy looking. Plus, it acts as an anti-inflammatory so it’s just as helpful at fighting acne as it is the signs of aging.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

If you think about it, it makes sense. Keeping your skin moisturized is important to its overall health. So hydrating it from the inside out is definitely a good thing. Water helps flush toxins that can cause inflammation of the skin. And water carries nutrients and oxygen to your skin cells to prevent skin dehydration which is a main cause of premature aging. Keep your skin healthy and refreshed and sip on water throughout the day.

Sport Some SPF

If sunscreen isn’t a part of your daily facial routine, it needs to be! Sun damage is responsible for nearly 90% of all wrinkles so if you want healthy, glowing skin for life it’s time to protect it. Use a daily moisturizer that protects against both UVA (responsible for aging skin) and UVB (responsible for causing skin cancer) rays. And when you’re outside for prolonged periods of time, reapply every two hours and more often if you are sweating or have gotten wet. And remember that your lips need protecting too, so don’t forget to apply chapstick with SPF.

Start Wine-ing

Now here’s a fun one. Resveratrol, which is an antioxidant found in red grape skins, is proven to help prevent wrinkles and other damage caused by your environment (smog, second hand smoke, etc.). Red wine also contains flavonoid and tannin which help to restore collagen and elasticity to skin. So essentially, a glass of red wine is part of a well-rounded beauty routine, right?

Veggies Are Your Friends

Plants, and particularly vegetables, have cancer-fighting properties when eaten. So imagine what they can do if you apply them directly to your skin. Skincare products that have ingredients derived from vegetables can fight signs of premature aging and aid in your overall skin health. Looking for a powerhouse veggie to eat? Try broccoli. A cup or raw broccoli is loaded with 65% of your recommended daily value of vitamin C which fights off nasty free radicals that cause skin damage.
