Spiced Ginger Pear Iced Black Tea

Warm up to the spiced flavors of fall with this iced black tea sip that reveals its sweeter side with juicy pear and honey. Brightly brisk notes of assam black tea (freshly brewed and chilled in our Takeya Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker) stand up to aromatic cinnamon that perfumes the brew. Fresh ginger brings a subtle pop of spicy flavor to balance the richness of honey and fruity pear. We recommend a Bartlett pear that’s fully ripe for the sweetest, most pear-forward taste.

For a spicier sip that will cool you down but still warm your taste buds, double the amount of ginger (just be sure to remove a few extra tablespoons of tea to make room). While we recommend an 8-hour pear, cinnamon and ginger infusion, feel free to let them linger longer in the iced tea to extract even more flavor. Just note that the longer the pears stay in the iced tea, the softer they will become which will make straining ingredients a bit trickier.

Whether you’re serving this solo or at the dining room table for a holiday family feast, make the sip special with a garnish. While a cinnamon stick will do the trick, grab a few extra pears at the store for the most artful garnish. Slice the “cheeks” off the pear – slicing on either side of the stem- so that you are left with a pear-shaped center cutout (see our photo for reference). Add it to a wide glass and pour in the spiced iced sip. Snack on the extra pear, or serve it as a light dessert along with the infused iced tea (to really bring out the pear). Cheers!

2 QT Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker

Ingredients:

  • 8 heaping teaspoons black tea* (assam black tea recommended)
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 4 cinnamon sticks, broken in half
  • 2 ½ cups ripe pears, chopped into ½ inch cubes (approx. 2 pears)
  • 5-inch piece ginger, peeled and thinly sliced

*Note: for a stronger tea flavor increase to 8 tablespoons black tea

Add Tea: Add tea into tea infuser with extender attached. Twist infuser into lid.

Brew: Pour 4 cups boiling water into Iced Tea Maker (filling it halfway). Lower the tea infuser into the water (allowing steam to vent) and brew for 5 minutes. Lift tea infuser from the brewed tea, place into infuser holder, and twist to detach infuser from lid. Stir in honey until dissolved.

Flash Chill: Fill entire pitcher with ice, seal lid airtight, and shake for 30 seconds to flash chill.

Add Fruit & Spices: remove 1¾ cups iced black tea from the Iced Tea Maker (set aside to sip later). Add chopped pear, sliced ginger and cinnamon sticks to the pitcher. Seal airtight and shake for 60 seconds to begin infusion process. Refrigerate for at least 8 hours. Strain out pear, ginger and cinnamon sticks. Serve and store in the Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker. Garnish with cinnamon stick or pear slice.
