How To Cold Brew Tea

Cold brewed tea, yes you read that right. While our Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker expertly brews and chills fresh, delicious iced tea in minutes – it can also be used to cold brew teas and herbs. Why cold brew? Steeping teas/herbs in hot water, extracts bolder, brisker flavors (before you chill them). By steeping herbs and teas in cold water over a longer duration of time, you can extract smoother and often sweeter flavors.

The instructions couldn’t be simpler, add 5 teaspoons tea to the infuser of our 1 quart Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker or 8 teaspoons tea to our 2 quart Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker, fill the pitcher with 4 ¾ cups or 7¾ cups cold water, lower the infuser into the pitcher, seal airtight and steep in the refrigerate for 4-16 hours. Cold brew timing depends on the tea type. For green teas and black teas, we recommend tasting at the 4-hour mark to see if you like the flavor and the strength. For oolong teas and herbal teas, we recommend 8-16 hours. Taste until you find the sweet spot for your taste buds.

Speaking of taste, for a stronger flavor you can increase the volume of tea from 5 teaspoons/8 teaspoons for 1 Quart/2 Quart Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker to 5 tablespoons/8 tablespoons. We especially recommend the tablespoon measurement for all herbal teas.

Experiment to see if you prefer a tea flash chilled or cold brewed, as there are some teas (like oolong teas and certain herbals – like chamomile) that often taste better when brewed in cold water. Bonus, you’ll be super hydrated by the time you discover the most delicious outcome.

There are 4 tips to enjoy the very best cold brew tea:

  1. Use good tea – fresh, high-quality whole leaf tea = better, fresher flavors.
  2. Cold, filtered water –start with a pure canvas so that you can appreciate all of the subtle nuances that are steeped when you use cold water.
  3. Airtight – Since you are steeping for a long period of time in the refrigerator, the airtight function of our Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker will lock in all of the fresh flavors and prevent your tea from absorbing leftovers lingering in your fridge. And then once you have removed the infuser with the tea/herbs, our airtight seal will keep the flavors of the brewed tea fresh until you’ve finished the last sip.
  4. Tea Quantity/Water – finding that sweet spot. Try 1 tsp per cup to 1 tablespoon per cup, to see what’s the most delicious (depending on the tea type). Bonus, our premium infuser provides the tea/herbs with the space that they need to move about and expand to properly extract all of the flavors tucked within.
