Recipe: Sparkling Pink Grapefruit Pom Green Tea

Bright & festive, green tea is brewed in our Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker and mixed with honey, fresh grapefruit, pomegranate juice and topped with sparkling water or wine. A sprinkle of pomegranate seeds give this gradient pink sip an extra pop of color.

Fresh, crisp flavors of Sencha, a Japanese green tea, are balanced by rich, sweet flavors of honey. Tea Tip: Sencha green tea calls for a water temp that is well below boiling – we recommend 160 degrees to gently brew the tea rather than burn it (which will lead to bitter flavors). If an electric kettle is not part of your kitchen crew, reach for a candy thermometer to check the temp of the water in your stovetop kettle.

Seek out ruby red grapefruit as they are known for a sweeter flavor and add a pink hue to this sip. Make the green tea, honey and grapefruit base in advance, and then when you’re ready to serve fill each glass with 5oz of the green tea grapefruit mix, 2oz of pomegranate juice (opt for 100% juice), and top off with your favorite unsweetened sparkling water. When picking up the bubbly, look for a grapefruit or citrus infused bottle to amp up the ruby red grapefruit flavors. Making it a cocktail - look for a sparkling wine with bright, fresh flavors. Garnish with pomegranate seeds and a grapefruit slice, and serve this sip for a holiday that’s merry and iced. 

Sparkling Pink Grapefruit Pom Green Tea

1 Quart Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker

Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons sencha green tea
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 ruby red grapefruits
  • Pomegranate juice
  • Sparkling wine or water (if using flavored, opt for unsweetened grapefruit or citrus sparkling water)
  • Optional: pomegranate seeds for garnish

Add Tea: Add 5 tablespoons of sencha green tea into infuser. Twist infuser into lid.

Brew: Heat 2.5 cups water to 160 degrees, then pour into Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker (filling it halfway). Lower the tea infuser into the water (allowing steam to vent) and brew for 3 minutes. Lift tea infuser from the brewed tea, place into infuser holder, and twist to detach infuser from lid. Stir in honey until dissolved.

Flash Chill: Fill entire pitcher with ice, seal lid airtight, and shake for 30 seconds to flash chill.
Add Fresh Flavors: Remove 3/4 cup iced green tea. Juice 1 whole and ½ of the second grapefruit (saving the second half for garnish) and pour into the Flash Chill Iced Tea Maker. Seal airtight and shake for 30 seconds to mix. When ready to serve, add ice to a glass, pour in 5oz iced grapefruit green tea, 2oz pomegranate juice and stir to combine. Top off with sparkling water or wine and garnish with a grapefruit slice and pomegranate seeds.
